This five-day workshop, presented by Library and Archives Canada in
collaboration with the Canadian Conservation Institute and Queen's
University will address the history, manufacture, care, and
treatment of portrait miniatures.

Mr. Alan Derbyshire, Head of the Sculpture, Metals, Ceramics and
Glass conservation section at the Victoria and Albert Museum
(London), and an expert in this specialized field, will deliver the
workshop with assistance from Ms. Maria Bedynski, Senior Conservator
of Works of Art on Paper, Library and Archives Canada.

The training program will include:

    *   Lectures on the history, manufacture and conservation of
        portrait Miniatures

    *   Practical session on handling, examination, condition
        reporting, and surveying of miniatures

    *   Practical session on painting portrait miniatures

    *   Practical sessions on treatment techniques on portrait
    miniatures

    *   Practical session on care of lockets, cases and enclosures

Registration: The workshop is open to conservation professionals
with responsibility for preserving portrait miniatures.  Portrait
miniatures are multi-media objects and this training may be of
interest to conservators in various fields of specialization.
Enrollment is limited to 10 participants.  The language of
instruction will be English.  The organizers reserve the right to
cancel the workshop one month prior to presentation of the event if
there is insufficient registration, and to make program changes as
deemed necessary.

Registration fee (includes lunches and breaks, course materials and
all applicable taxes):

    CAN $ 700 for Canadian participants
    US$ 700 for all others

Application forms must be received by May 2, 2005.  Selection of
participants will be made based upon the information provided on the
application form.

Applicants will be notified of their standing by May 10, 2005.
Accepted participants must forward the full workshop fee by July 1,
2005 in order to secure a place in the workshop.
