Upper Midwest Conservation Association announces collections
management workshops for Spring 2005.

April 2005 marks the start of two, one-day collections management
workshops presented by Upper Midwest Conservation Association. These
workshops will travel throughout the Midwest and will provide
training on collections documentation and labeling techniques. Those
interested in attending can register at anytime up to a week before
the workshop start date by contacting the UMCA Preservation Services
Department. The following workshops will be offered:

Techniques for Documenting Artifacts and Describing What is
Observed: Participants will use study collection objects to
learn about various examination techniques and documentation of
findings. Techniques will include: determination of age, media,
and provenance; distinguishing original media; and condition
    reporting.

Applying Accession Numbers to Museum Artifacts: A hands-on
workshop providing practical instruction on labeling techniques.
Participants will work with a variety of artifacts from a study
collection to learn the appropriate methods for different object
types and learn about standardized accessioning systems.

These are two one-day workshops offered sequentially. Registration
is allowed for an individual workshop or for both together resulting
in a discounted fee. The workshops will travel to the following
