Conservation Scientist Malta Centre for Restoration The Malta Centre for Restoration (MCR) is Malta's national centre for conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, providing diagnostic and conservation laboratory services, advanced documentation systems as well as degree programmes in conservation studies. The Institute for Conservation and Restoration Studies, the teaching arm of the MCR, offers a variety of courses ranging from short courses to vocational courses to degree and post-graduate courses with degrees awarded by the University of Malta. The Centre is an autonomous institution established by law as a partnership between the University of Malta and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Malta. MCR's mission, as defined in the Cultural Heritage Act "is to become a centre of excellence for the teaching, training, research and practice of conservation". The MCR is seeking to appoint on a full-time basis a Conservation Scientist and Assistant Director of the Diagnostic Science Laboratories In September 2005, Dr Christian Degrigny will be completing a successful term as the Assistant Director of the Diagnostic Science Laboratories (DSL) at MCR. Dr Degrigny will continue to lead the MCR's research efforts in the EU PROMET project but meanwhile the post of Assistant Director of DSL will become vacant as of 1st October 2005. The MCR is therefore inviting applications from suitability qualified candidates who would be interested in taking up a full-time position as conservation scientist with the additional responsibility of Assistant Director of DSL. The ideal candidate would preferably be in possession of a PhD degree with a specialization in stone conservation science and at least 10 years' experience in conservation science. Candidates with specialization in other areas of conservation science will also be considered. The candidate must be capable of communicating effectively: sharing of knowledge with his staff and conservation professionals at MCR; establishing collaboration with Maltese research laboratories and research institutions abroad. Experience in SEM-EDS, XRD, IC and FTIR will be taken into consideration. Lecturing and academic coordination skills would be considered an asset.
