The IADA (Internationale Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Archiv-,
Bibliotheks- und Graphikrestauratoren) managed by Manfred Anders in
Leipzig, Germany, one of the MIP members, organizes a symposium
(June 3 - 5), dedicated to the fire at the Anna-Amalia library.
Built in 1691, it holds around one million books including the
world's largest collection of Faust by Johann Wolfgang Goethe,
considered Germany's greatest writer and who lived in Weimar for a
large part of his life. The library specializes in German literature
between 1750 and 1850. The library is UNESCO world heritage/Memory
of the world.

Therefore, on June 2, 2005, the European Thematic Network MIP
(Transition Metals in Conservation) organizes a one day dedicated
symposium.

The aim for our symposium is to exchange knowledge on research and
conservation of objects affected with iron gall ink corrosion after
fire. We welcome speakers from research, suppliers and end-users
related to the following topics:

    * Session 1: Emission, Storage conditions and mould prevention
        of objects affected with iron gall ink corrosion after fire
        (preventive conservation).

    * Session 2: Effects of (fire extinguishing) water on objects
        affected with iron gall ink corrosion.

    * Session 3: restoration of objects affected with iron gall
        ink corrosion after fire.

We invite you to send us an abstract (maximum 500 words) if you are
interested to exchange your knowledge and experience on one of the
three mentioned items. The deadline for the abstracts (oral
presentation or poster presentation) is April 30, 2005. Submission
of your abstract can be done to john.havermans<-a t->tno< . >nl; anders<-a t->zfb< . >de
or via info<-a t->miponline< . >org.

Lectures dealing with the problems of collections after fire in
Libraries/Archives/Museums etc., and the restoration of burned
books, paper, leather, parchment are extremely welcome.
