Position Responsibilities

Basic Functions

    Teach Amigos' curriculum of preservation workshops and conduct
    site surveys.

    Work with staff of cultural heritage institutions, primarily in
    the southwestern United States.

Major Responsibilities

    *   Conduct training workshops to enable staff of cultural
        heritage institutions to understand and utilize appropriate
        preservation techniques. Course topics include mold and
        pests, collection care and handling, preservation of
        audiovisual materials, preservation of photos, preservation
        of historical records, and saving family treasures.

    *   Conduct site surveys to evaluate physical condition of
        facilities and collection materials and make recommendations
        for appropriate activities to assure maximum collection
        lifespan. Prepare written documentation to support site
        survey recommendations.

Work Schedule: As needed for workshops/surveys in Texas, Oklahoma,
Arkansas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Travel: As needed. Must have valid Drivers License, a reliable
automobile, and state required minimum car insurance(s).

Position Requirements

    Education: Master's Degree in Library Science from an
    ALA-accredited library school and either a certificate of
    preservation or archival administration or extensive knowledge
    of preservation practices, principles, and issues.

    Experience: Require minimum one year's practical experience with
    basic preservation issues. Prefer experience teaching,
    especially preservation and preservation-related
    courses/workshops. Knowledge of audio-visual materials and
    photographs. Experience conducting collection surveys.

    Skills: Require ability to research topics thoroughly, excellent
    oral and written communication skills, excellent planning and
    organizational skills, knowledge of archival and library issues.

    Traits: Energetic, enjoy teaching adult learners, flexible,
    patient, ability to think "on your feet," analytical and
    problem-solving skills, well organized, and able to prioritize.
