Head Conservator (maternity cover)

based Edinburgh, start salary UKP28,146 pro rata
Fixed term, commencing early May and ending early November 2005 (to
be agreed).

The Job: To promote, develop and guide the conservation of the
Trust's extensive collections housed in some of Scotland's most
important historic buildings open to the public, ranging from
cottages to castles, and great houses to museums. Working closely
with the Trust's Curators, and offering technical support/advice and
practical help to Regional Conservators, s/he will also ensure that
collections care issues are given due recognition in the Trust's
wider policies and activities, liaising with colleagues in other
conservation disciplines and those whose prime focus is access,
enjoyment and visitor servicing.

Qualifications and experience: Must be educated to degree level with
a recognised conservation qualification, together with at least five
years experience in a particular conservation discipline, and a
proven track record of effecting and/or managing preventive
conservation.  S/he must be a very able communicator with excellent
interpersonal skills, able to advocate excellence in conservation,
yet sensitive to the other demands placed on the Trust's properties.
Must be administratively self-sufficient, with current, clean
driving licence. Should hold accredited status (PACR) or be working
towards it.
