Subject: Position in Albania
Archaeological Field Conservator Joint expedition to Lofkend Albania Summer 2005 The joint expedition to Lofkend, a pre- and proto-historical burial tumulus in southwestern Albania (1000-700 B.C.), is beginning its second season of excavation in June 2005. The project is co-directed by archaeologists from the Institute of Archaeology, Academy of Sciences, Albania, and the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology, UCLA, Los Angeles, California (USA). Primary finds include handmade ceramics and stone tools as well as ornaments and weapons of iron and of copper alloy. Our field season runs from June 20 to July 29, 2005 and the expedition is housed at Apollonia, with work and storage facilities in the museum of the monastery at Apollonia. The excavation seeks a Conservator for the full six-week season. Candidates must have a graduate degree in Conservation or the equivalent from a recognized program. Three to five years experience working with inorganic archaeological materials, particularly iron and copper alloys, and a minimum of three seasons of conservation field experience, are highly desired. We can provide travel costs to Albania, room and full board (shared accommodation at Apollonia), cost of all conservation supplies and expenses, and salary commensurate with training and experience (resume and names of three referees are requested).
