Ref: 70129

This is a contract position (five months) to continue conservation
on an important group of early Asian textiles, collected by Sir
Aurel Stein. You will be expected to implement and help to develop
suitable conservation treatments, working closely with the
Conservator leading the project and with curatorial colleagues.
There will also be occasions when you will work on the wider textile
collection at The British Museum, which is particularly rich in
ethnographic and archaeological textiles.

Person specification: We are looking for a qualified Conservator
with an interest in working in a large and busy national museum. You
must demonstrate in your application that you have suitable
qualifications for the post and practical experience following
graduation is desirable. You must be able to work as part of a small
team, yet be able to work independently. Good workflow planning
skills are desirable. You will be required to work closely with
other professionals within the Museum and good communications skills
are essential.

The successful candidates will predominantly be based at our North
London studios. Most of the daily work will be carried out in the
studio, but sometimes it is more convenient for staff to work in
galleries or storage areas.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be able to take
up the post as soon as possible. For an informal discussion of the
posts please contact Allyson Rae on +44 207 323 8086.

Closing date: 2 March 2005.
Interviews to be held week commencing: 14 March 2005.
