Formed in April 2003, the National Archives is a leading source of
archive research material and one of the largest collections of its
type in the world.  The material spans over 1000 years of British
history, from the Domesday Book to recently released government
papers.

Our Conservation Research Section is developing an active research
programme with national and international partners to support the
aims of the National Archives as well as within the context of the
UK conservation research agenda for libraries and archives.

We need to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic person to
support aspects of our recently established research programme.  In
the first instance you will also support the materials database and
materials testing programme. The post reports direct to the Head of
Conservation Research and is offered on a two year contract.

The role calls for a formal qualification in conservation (ideally
book and paper), a working knowledge of the Internet and MS Office
products.  The ability to identify, interpret and evaluate related
literature and analytical results, communicate findings to a wide
professional community and work independently to agreed deadlines
