Balboa Art Conservation Center (BACC)

The Balboa Art Conservation Center (BACC), an active regional center
serving 17 member museums, non-member museums and private clients
seeks an Assistant or Associate Paper Conservator and a Mellon
Fellow in Paper Conservation. BACC conservators work with a wide
variety of collection types performing conservation services in
examination, treatment, analysis, and on-site surveys of
collections.

The Center is located in San Diego's Balboa Park in a museum
campus-type environment while collections served by BACC vary widely
related to the museum community active with the Center.  Paper
conservation staff work with collections that include some archival
materials, but predominantly history and art collections with
emphasis not only in American and European, but S. Asian and some E.
Asian materials as well.

The Mellon Fellow internship is a one-year, post-graduate
internship. Applicants should be recent graduates of recognized
conservation training programs or have equivalent experience.  The
stipend is based upon a salary of $24,000 plus benefits, four weeks
of research leave, and a $1,500 travel allowance in support of study
projects.  The internship is scheduled to begin in September 2005.

The Assistant or Associate Paper Conservator position is a full-time
staff position and requires a degree from a recognized conservation
training program or equivalent experience.  Preference will be given
to applicants with one or more years of post-graduate experience for
the Assistant position while the Associate position requires a
minimum of four years of post-graduate experience.  The position
offers good benefits and salary commensurate with qualifications and
