Transformation AGO is the vision for a new kind of art museum. It is
a vision of the Art Gallery of Ontario as the imaginative centre of
the city, a place where the power of great art is lived and
celebrated, a place where ideas are born and tested.  To help
achieve this vision, the Art Gallery of Ontario is looking for two
(2) temporary full-time conservators to work in a very busy museum
environment:  an experienced Paintings Conservator, equipped to take
full responsibility for the conservation treatment and art
preservation aspects of a large, exhibition-type project involving
Group of Seven Paintings.

This is a temporary full-time position working up to 46 weeks.  The
Art Gallery of Ontario is also seeking an experienced paintings
Conservator, Canadian Art, for a temporary full-time position up to
12 months.

The successful candidate will be equipped to take full
responsibility for the Gallery's Canadian painting and sculpture
collections. Reporting to the Head of Conservation, these positions
are responsible for prolonging the physical and aesthetic life of
works of art through documentation, preventive care, conservation
treatment, research and education; promoting and advocating the
preservation of works in the collection or in temporary custody of
the Gallery; and providing advice and expertise concerning the
aesthetic, conceptual and physical characteristics of works of art.
This includes defining conservation criteria to be met for framing,
handling, packing, shipping, security measures, and articulating
conservation criteria for the exhibition and loan of individual
works or art.

The ideal candidate for these positions will have a Masters degree
in Conservation from a recognized University or College, plus five
(5) years related experience in paintings conservation, in an art
museum, or equivalent combination of education and years of directly
related experience.  In addition, the candidates will have a
demonstrated ability to work independently, possess an excellent
knowledge of conservation principles, practices, materials, and
techniques, as well as an excellent knowledge of health and safety
legislation, regulations and practices, and the "Code of Ethics and
Guidance for Practice" of the Canadian Association for Conservation
of Cultural Property (CAC) and of the Canadian Association of
Professional Conservators (CAPC).
