Subject: Course on dyeing
Dyeing Support Materials for Textile Conservation University of Southampton Continuing Professional Development Programme The Textile Conservation Centre Winchester, England 15-18 March 2005 Textile conservators need to be able to dye support fabrics that are stable to light and water and are colour matched to the textile to be supported. A few places are available on the annual dye course which forms part of the MA Textile Conservation programme. This intensive four-day workshop introduces participants to dye theory and practice. It includes dyeing a variety of typical support fabrics and conservation sewing threads using Ciba Geigy dyes. Course participants will work alongside current MA students in small groups to enable the development of practical skills and familiarity with dyeing techniques. The course will appeal to practising or returning conservators who have a special interest in textile conservation with appropriate qualification and/or experience. Where appropriate, course members will be selected to ensure comparable levels of experience. The course will take place in the Centre's building on the Winchester campus with good rail, road and air connections; information on a range of local accommodation can be provided. Outcomes: Participants will learn dyeing techniques on cotton, silk fabric, nylon net and silk threads and will take away a variety of dyed samples and recipes for future use. Fee: UKP500 (includes materials, samples and a copy of the Centre's Dye Manual).
