The Conservation Awards, the UK's premier awards in the conservation
field, have now been launched for 2005, their tenth anniversary,
with a new sponsor, Sir Paul McCartney. The Awards will be presented
at the British Museum on 22 November 2005. Short-listed applicants
attract significant publicity, and receive a certificate recognising
their achievement at the presentation event.

To be eligible for the Award for Conservation or the Award for Care
of Collections, a project must have been completed in the UK between
1 July 2003 and 31 January 2005. The Award for Conservation is open
to projects focused on the conservation of individual items or
collections, of the decorative elements or fixtures associated with
a historic building (but not the building itself), or of monuments
and sculptures. The Award for Care of Collections, offered this year
for the first time, is open to projects focused on improving the
conditions in which collections are housed.

To be eligible for the Student Conservator of the Year Award, a
project may focus on conservation, collections care or research and
innovation, and must have been completed as part of a recognised UK
training programme or internship, between 1 December 2003 and 31
March 2005.

To be eligible for the Digital Preservation Award, a project must
demonstrate leadership and advancement in the digital preservation
arena and must have been completed by 31 May 2005.

To be eligible for the Anna Plowden Trust Award for Research and
Innovation, a project must be a completed programme of research or
development aimed at furthering the practice of conservation,
including production of materials, equipment, systems or techniques
for improved conservation and collections care, or for examination,
analysis, treatment or monitoring. It must have been completed with
a view to possible publication or put on the market in the UK
between 1 July 2003 and 31 May 2005.

The outcome of all projects submitted must be accessible to the
public in the UK.
