Subject: Internship at Shelburne Museum
Advanced Conservation Internship Shelburne Museum Vermont, USA The Shelburne Museum is offering a 15-month Advanced Conservation Internship in objects conservation to support the conservation survey and treatment of selected collection artifacts, funded by IMLS. The advanced internship will be divided into four approximately equal components: (1) a detailed conservation survey of Shelburne's important collection of decoys, (2) conservation treatment of carved and painted wooden artifacts and textile flags from the Roy Arnold miniature circus parade, (3) cleaning a tenacious layer of darkened linseed oil from a carousel animal, (4) remedial treatment of horse-drawn vehicles to improve their stability and appearance. The intern will also be exposed to practical environmental improvement techniques and be encouraged to conduct practical treatment-related research. The conservation of these artifacts selected from several collections is part of a continuing multi-year effort to reinterpret the Museum's holdings, and advance preservation by improving environmental conditions in buildings and exhibition cases. The project will commence June, 2005 and will carry an annual salary of $28,000 with benefits and housing shared with other museum interns.
