Acquiring and Siting Classical Art: Dialogue between Curator and
    Conservator
American Institute for Conservation Workshop
at the Atlanta CAA Meeting
Michael C. Carlos Museum, Emory University
Friday, Feb. 18, noon-1:30

Transportation will be arranged to and from the conference; workshop
participants should be able to attend both the morning and afternoon
sessions.

This is a gallery-based workshop. Jasper Gaunt, curator and Renee
Stein, conservator, will discuss evidence of manufacture, questions
of authenticity, as well as extent of cleaning and compensation for
display in the Carlos Museum's recently reinstalled Classical
galleries. Examples may include a black-figure ceramic krater which
raised questions about authenticity, a bronze hydria studied for
manufacturing techniques, and a Hellenistic marble sculpture which
presented challenges for cleaning and compensation. The workshop
will emphasize visual examination and encourage participation.
Attendance will be strictly limited, by pre-reservation. Priority
will be given to a balance of academic art historians, curators,
conservators and working artists. To enroll contact
