Including the preparation and use of ancient pigments and gold, the
preparation of painting surfaces and the opportunity to examine
original Mughal paintings

Following the success of the 2004 courses, we are running more
courses in the practical techniques, materials and pigment
preparation of the Mughal schools.

The first course in April will be a repetition of last year's. The
second course in September is designed for those who have already
attended a course, and wish to build upon their previous experience.

The courses will be taught by expert practitioner Anita Chowdry

Each course will include a study session with the V&A collection of
Mughal paintings

Places on each course are limited to 15

Course 1: April- 8, 2005
10:0am-3:30pm

    Overview of materials and techniques

        Study and preparation of cotton and paper painting surfaces
        Study and preparation of authentic mineral and organic
        pigments
        Preparation of 24ct gold paint
        Close examination of 16th and 17th century Royal Mughal
        paintings
        Brush drawing techniques
        Colouring techniques

Course 2: September 12-16, 2005
10:30am-3:30pm

    Advanced painting and finishing techniques:

        This will build on areas covered by the previous course,
        with more concentration on painting techniques and creating
        a finished picture.

        Preparing a painting surface and pigments
        Studying composition and form in 16th and 17th century
        Mughal painting
        V&A study room session
        Advanced brush drawing techniques
        Understanding how to use mineral and organic colour
        Finishing and embellishment techniques
        Illuminated borders and decorative finishes such as gold
        sprinkling

Cost: UKP275 per course. This includes basic materials and samples.

Half of this payable on booking, the remainder upon arrival.
