Post Doctoral fellowship in conservation science
Getty Conservation Institute
September 2005

The Getty Conservation Institute is pleased to announce the creation
of a post-doctoral fellowship in conservation science. This
residential fellowship will run for two years beginning in the fall
of 2005 and the recipient will work on a specific project of the
Getty Conservation Institute for each two-year period. There will
be one fellow selected from the applicant pool every two years.

The fellowship provides an annual stipend of $26,400, a workstation
at the Getty Conservation Institute, airfare to Los Angeles, an
apartment in the Getty scholar housing complex, and health benefits.
The fellow is expected to be in residence at the Getty Conservation
Institute in Los Angeles for the entire two-year period.

The post-doctoral fellow for 2005-2007 will work in the analytical
research section of the GCI's science department, focusing on the
application of mass spectrometry in the characterization of the
materials of modern paintings, primarily the polymeric binding media
and synthetic organic pigments. A second aspect of the position is
to investigate the nature and composition of stains and
discolorations that form on cotton canvases, which are of primary
concern in the conservation of color field paintings.

Experience with a double-focusing, magnetic sector mass spectrometer
is valuable, as is practical knowledge and experience in liquid
chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS).

To apply, please submit a letter of interest with a statement of
qualifications, and CV to:
