A death

From: Miguel Berthet <migbert>
Date: Thursday, December 16, 2004
Pilar Diaz-Berthet, independent painting conservator, died in
Montevideo (Uruguay) on November 26, 2005, at the age of 69, after
bravely fighting cancer for almost ten months.

Born in Uruguay, of Spanish ascent, she graduated as a Doctor in Law
and Social Sciences. Fond of the Fine Arts and very gifted for
drawing and painting, after a short period of practicing law, for
about six years she followed an apprenticeship in painting
conservation with Mrs. Myriam Pereira-Cardoso, in Brasilia (Brazil)
and in Uruguay.

>From 1985 to 1989 she attended proficiency courses in Brussels at
the school of " La Cambre", of the Belgian "Institut du Patrimoine".
She also lived in Geneva and London--where she became a member of
the British Association of Painting Conservators-Restorers and of
CHISPA, the Spanish speaking conservators group--but her
conservation practice was based in Montevideo, Uruguay. She was also
a member of AIC, the American Institut for Conservation.

Pilar was a very talented, well informed and successful conservator
in private practice.

A warm, modest and generous person, beloved mother and wife, she
will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. She left
three daughters and husband.
