Subject: Conference on upholstery
The Forgotten History, May 12th-13th 2005 Upholstery Conservation/History Conference Vadstena, Sweden This Upholstery Conference in Vadstena will be the first international one held in Europe and also the first one to focus on The Upholstery History. Upholstery History regarding materials and techniques used in upholstery work around the world is almost a completely unexplored area. The knowledge of material and techniques used during different periods however exists. The aim of this conference is to gather professionals and their knowledge from different countries with focus on the upholstery history and this will hope-fully be the beginning of a new research area within decorative arts. The positive response to the call for papers made us convinced that the conference will give the participants the opportunity to listen to interesting presentations, to exchange opinions and to establish new contacts. The papers are planned to be published later in 2005. This publication will hopefully be of great help for curators, conservators, upholsterers, auctioneers and other professionals working in this field. Hopefully it will also help more of the rare original upholstery work that exists to survive zealous craftsmen and ignorant people within the area of decorative arts. We look forward to seeing you in Vadstena in May 2005.
