Conservator (Works on Paper) Queensland Art Gallery Brisbane Australia Permanent Full-Time Position Salary: $53,055 - $57,936 per annum Vacancy Reference Number: QAG 615/04 The construction of a second site for the Queensland Art Gallery--the new Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (QGOMA), due to open in 2006--offers an unprecedented opportunity for the successful applicant to play a role in strategically re-positioning the Gallery for the challenges of the 21st Century. Purpose of Position: Ensure appropriate conservation care, treatment and research of contemporary works of art on paper and photographs from the Collection including during storage, exhibition, loan and regional touring programs. Skills/Abilities: Possession of relevant tertiary qualification/s in Conservation; Knowledge of the materials and techniques commonly used in the creation of works of art on paper, including contemporary art and photographs and of techniques available for their technical examination and analysis; Demonstrated skills in assessing the conservation requirements of a diverse range of works of art on paper, including contemporary art and photographs and in successfully applying conservation treatments to these works; Knowledge of professional museum practices appropriate to the handling, packing, transport, display and storage of works of art on paper; Proven ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary group of staff, artists, educators and members of the public; A knowledge of art history and/or practice; Proven ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
