Assistant Objects Conservator/Site Conservator
Position at Intermuseum Conservation Association

The Intermuseum Conservation Association, a non-profit regional
conservation facility in Cleveland, Ohio, seeks applications for an
Assistant Objects Conservator, who would in addition serve as an
on-site conservator for Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, an
AAM-accredited house museum in Akron, Ohio.

The Assistant Objects Conservator will report to the Associate
Objects Conservator at the ICA and will be a full-time ICA employee
with competitive salary and full benefits. Responsibilities will
include approximately three days a week of work at the ICA Lab
working on a variety of treatments on objects from the collections
of the ICA's member institutions, corporate clients and private
collectors. Materials to be dealt with include ceramics, glass,
stone, metals, plaster, plastic, etc. The Assistant Conservator
will be expected to facilitate treatment for the objects, from
documentation to examination, consultation with curators and owners,
bench treatment and overseeing of mounting and packing. Interactions
with colleagues and support staff are an essential part of the job,
as is outreach to member institutions, allied professionals,
prospective clients, the press, and the general public.

Two days per week will be spent at Stan Hywet Hall as a site
conservator and collections care specialist. The site conservator
will report to the Vice President of Museum Services
Division/Curator and work with the Associate Curator of Collections
on Stan Hywet projects. Duties will include assessing the
collection, prioritizing conservation needs, treating objects
on-site in a small satellite lab, participating in training sessions
with Stan Hywet staff, and generally serving as contact person for
conservation issues. Larger scale projects involving collections
objects will be undertaken at the ICA lab. The site conservator
will be expected to identify problems in other conservation
specialties, which may be referred to appropriate staff members at
the ICA.

Qualifications: Graduate degree in objects conservation from an
accredited conservation program, with two to five years
post-graduate experience working in museums, regional labs, or
private conservation studios; or equivalent training and experience.
Experience and interest in preventative conservation or collections
care highly desirable. Candidates should be willing and able to
discuss conservation policies and topics with staff and volunteers
