Summer Internship Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County A conservation graduate student internship is offered for the summer of 2005 at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. The Natural History Museum boasts extensive, distinguished collections in the fields of anthropology, botany, history, paleontology, mineralogy, as well as most of the zoological disciplines. Located in Exposition Park, just south of the University of Southern California, the Natural History Museum is close to a number of other museums and cultural attractions. The internship will focus on preventive conservation for special groups of artifacts and specimens within the museum's archaeology, ethnography, history, mineralogy, and/or zoological collections. Internship projects will include rehousing and treating artifacts and specimens for their safe storage. Collections move preparations may also comprise part of the internship. Aspects of the internship may be tailored to fit with the intern's particular interests. All work will be carried out under the direct supervision of the conservator. Salary and travel expenses will be provided for the intern pending confirmation of funding. Note that full funding was secured for the previous two summer internships. Both first and second year students are invited to apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or have U.S. residency.
