Senior Conservator, (Libraries and Archives)
3 year fixed term contract
Corporation of London Libraries and Guildhall Art Gallery
UKP 29,140 - 34,880 p.a. inclusive of supplement (pay award pending)

We are looking for a Senior Conservator to lead our highly skilled
team of 5 staff for the next 3 years in providing conservation and
preservation services and advice to the Corporation's libraries and,
on request, to other Corporation Departments and City institutions.
The principal emphasis is on preserving for posterity the City's
heritage while maximising the public availability of the
collections. In addition to his/her management responsibilities the
Senior Conservator is expected personally to conserve library
materials and works closely with the Keeper of Manuscripts to raise
income, particularly conservation grants, from depositors and
donors.

The Department's collections, particularly those of Guildhall
Library, reflect London's wealth and status over the centuries, with
more than 5.7 linear miles of manuscripts plus items in a range of
materials (paper, parchment, seals, watercolours, gilding) and
formats (books, fine bindings, rolls, photographs etc).

If you hold a recognised conservation qualification or have
undergone equivalent training and have at least 5 years relevant
post qualification experience, preferably in a library or record
office, then you could be the person we are looking for. A knowledge
of library and archive materials, the ability to manage staff and
resources, excellent oral and written communication skills and
computer skills (especially Microsoft Access and Word) are also
essential. Experience or knowledge of the commercial sector would be
an advantage.
