Call for Papers
IPC 5th International Conference
27-29th July 2006
Venue: The Edinburgh International Conference Centre
Organiser: Barbara Venables

Set in Edinburgh, the IPC 5th International Conference will discuss
the practicalities of paper conservation in the 21st century
including:

    * The shift toward preservation: The debate will investigate
the impact of the move towards preservation, it is one of
        conservation/restoration versus preservation: does
preservation enhance or undermine practical work in the
conservation profession The conference aims to give both
sides an opportunity to justify their position and open up
the discussion as to which approach has the greatest merit.

    * Within this background the conference wants to present case
studies in paper conservation and paper science, giving
solutions to difficult or unusual projects questions they
        raise and developments they trigger.

    * As the profession matures, conservators' roles and
commitments expand taking them away from their studios, as
they have to manage the business of conservation; research
highlights the effect of treatments and expectations change.
The conference wishes to return to fundamentals and present
papers, which show the variety, challenges and
practicalities of the work of the paper conservator and
        conservation scientist

    * With examples of the practical methodology, approaches and
techniques: this conference will consider the impact of the
changes in working methods, the effect on the private
sector, libraries, museums and galleries and ask whether
they have been for the good?

Moreover, the conference aims to provide a forum for debate,
reporting achievements and imparting information and expertise that
will bring together students of conservation, professional
conservators and conservation scientists.

If you have work that you think would be of interest to others and
