Subject: Ozone generators
An individual has contacted me who has had a house fire and is dealing with a disaster recovery company. The company is pushing the use of an ozone generator to eliminate the smoke smell. She is particularly concerned about her antique furniture I have advised her that ozone (O3)--a very powerful oxidizer can cause damage to her items and recommended that the use mechanical, solvent or water based cleaning methods may be more appropriate but some residual smell may remain. Has anyone seen the result of this ozone treatment on furniture so I can advise the individual as to what she might expect if she proceeds with the ozone treatment, fading, powdery finnish? Will it completely eliminate smoke smells?
