Assistant Conservator (objects) (fixed term contract until 31 March 2006) Bristol Museums and Art Gallery Service Bristol City Council Salary: UKP22,599-UKP25,407 37 hours per week City Museum and Art Gallery, Queens Road Bristol, BS8 1RL, U.K. Ref: 9064 Bristol Museum is searching for a dynamic conservator to maintain the momentum of an exciting project conserving, re-storing and re-displaying Bristol's Designated Chinese glass collection, funded through the Designated Challenge Fund. This project started in April 2004. You will work with a wide variety of museum staff and outside specialists and must enjoy using your considerable communication skills to forge constructive relationships with them all. You will work under the supervision of the conservator of antiquities, but welcome the responsibility of managing your own time and devising your own solutions to conservation problems. You will have a degree from a recognised conservation training programme, or commensurate experience, and ideally two to three years post training experience. We seek an individual with a creative and flexible approach to problem solving, along with a thorough knowledge of historic glass and its conservation. Experience within a museum work environment will be seen as an advantage. Bristol Museums and Art Gallery Service is lead for the Renaissance in the Regions Phase 1 SW Hub. As such it is currently expanding its staff structure and developing its public role. In addition, it has been awarded a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a new Museum of Bristol.
