Subject: Plan Files for poster storage
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with the Ulrich PlanFile system for vertical storage of maps and/or posters. These have been proposed to us by a vendor as a higher-density alternative to conventional flat map cases. I've spoken to a librarian who has used them for years in public-access map collections, but I would also like to talk with someone who may have investigated or used them for special collections materials (In our case these are WWI, WWII and TASS posters). I would especially like more information about the pressure exerted on the materials by the spring/clamp system, and the amount of manipulation it seems to require to remove an item from the storage unit. Thanks very much. Maria L.
