Closing Date: 07/20/2004 Job Description: The Library Preservation Department at the University of California, Berkeley consists of various units: microfilm, digital imaging, library binding, preservation replacement and conservation treatment, both circulating and special materials. The conservation assistant position is in the special collections treatment unit working with a conservator and two conservation assistants. The job is to help prepare the special collections of the Bancroft Library for their move in September of 2005. Organizes the move of Bancroft Special Collections materials into several locations. Create enclosures: measures, orders, fits and marks the completed housing. Vacuum and clean materials in preparation for the move. Other move related activities. Requirements and Qualifications: Demonstrated communication, planning, organizing and management skills; experience in leading work of two or three people; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; demonstrated ability and experience with excel, word and e-mail. Other Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of current conservation/preservation principles, practices and techniques. Experience in a research library conservation program.
