Identification and Preservation of Photograph collections
Barcelona
December 16-18, 2004

Goal: This workshop is designed to give a basic understanding of
photographic processes and the basic preservation of photograph
collections to collection managers and others responsible for
photograph collections. At the end of the 3 days the participant
will have a basic understanding of the most common photographic
processes. Participants will attain a general sense of the
requirements surrounding storage and exhibition. Deterioration of
photographs will be covered and the participant will have a basic
understanding of deterioration mechanisms in relation to handling,
storage and exhibition.

Topics covered

    Understanding of the identification of 19th en 20th Century
    processes including negatives

    Deterioration mechanisms and forms of deterioration

    Handling of photographs

    Basic storage and exhibition requirements and an introduction to
    storage materials and monitoring methods

    Group learning using case studies

Teacher: Clara Waldthausen,photograph conservator in private
practice in Holland and works for many public institutions and
museums. She studied in the USA,worked 3 years in several american
museums,received her degree in Conservation of photographic
materials for the ICN,Holland.

Target group: Technicians and assistants working in close contact
with photograph collections.

Price: 450 Euros   Number of participants: 10

Language: English  with a Spanish translation for the local
participants.
