House Manager West Dean College The Edward James Foundation West Dean College occupies a fine 19th-century flint-faced mansion which houses an important decorative and fine art collection and is part of a 6,000-acre Estate that includes West Dean Gardens. It was the desire of Edward James, founder of the College and an influential patron of 20th-century visual culture, to nurture the visual arts, crafts and music and to fulfil this ambition he created a charitable educational trust, the Edward James Foundation, established in 1964. The retirement of the existing postholder after 23 years' service means that the Foundation is seeking to recruit to the following key post: House Manager Starting salary in the range UKP21,000 - UKP26,000 + contributory pension scheme The House Manager has day to day responsibility for the presentation, conservation and security of the house and its collection, student accommodation and associated College buildings. Candidates must have relevant experience in conservation management of an historic house interior and decorative art collection, administration, housekeeping and security as well as the ability to manage a staff team effectively. For the effective performance of their duties the postholder will be required to live within a ten mile radius of the College.
