House Manager
West Dean College
The Edward James Foundation

West Dean College occupies a fine 19th-century flint-faced mansion
which houses an important decorative and fine art collection and is
part of a 6,000-acre Estate that includes West Dean Gardens. It was
the desire of Edward James, founder of the College and an
influential patron of 20th-century visual culture, to nurture the
visual arts, crafts and music and to fulfil this ambition he created
a charitable educational trust, the Edward James Foundation,
established in 1964.

The retirement of the existing postholder after 23 years' service
means that the Foundation is seeking to recruit to the following key
post: House Manager

Starting salary in the range UKP21,000 - UKP26,000 + contributory
pension scheme

The House Manager has day to day responsibility for the
presentation, conservation and security of the house and its
collection, student accommodation and associated College buildings.

Candidates must have relevant experience in conservation management
of an historic house interior and decorative art collection,
administration, housekeeping and security as well as the ability to
manage a staff team effectively.

For the effective performance of their duties the postholder will be
required to live within a ten mile radius of the College.
Accommodation may be available on the Estate and relocation expenses
will be available to the successful candidate.
