This position is available to design and execute research into the
chemical mechanisms of polymer degradation, particularly
deterioration induced by physical stresses.  This position will also
be part of a team aimed at developing a non-destructive sensor for
polymer deterioration, helping to design the sensor and evaluate its
performance on degrading polymer systems.  Qualified candidates
should have a Ph.D. in chemistry or polymer science with an emphasis
in polymer degradation chemistry studies.  The candidate should have
an interest in beginning or continuing a career in conservation
science.  Familiarity with molecular weight measurements, analytical
instrumentation, optical spectroscopies, molecular modeling,
personal computers, and instrument interface programming language is
