Conservation of Heritage Settlements: Project Manager (P-3) ane Conservation of Collections: Project Specialist (P-2) International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) ICCROM <URL:http://www.iccrom.org> is an intergovernmental organization (created by UNESCO in 1956) with a mandate to raise the level of conservation of cultural heritage worldwide. It has over 110 Member States. Its statutory functions include the provision of technical advice and information, professional education and training, public awareness and research. Conservation of Heritage Settlements: Project Manager (P-3) ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) is seeking to appoint a Project Manager specialized in the conservation of heritage settlements. An important part of ICCROM's work is promoting innovative approaches to the conservation of human settlements of heritage value. Current themes include integrated approaches to territorial and urban conservation (ITUC) and the conservation of living heritage sites. Longstanding commitments are to organizing technical courses on architectural conservation and to fulfilling its role as an Advisory Body to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. The post-holder will be expected to help conceive, design and implement projects related to the management of immovable cultural heritage sites of all types. The post holder will also provide scientific and technical advice at the request of Member States and partner organizations. He/she will work closely with ICCROM's interdisciplinary professional staff and will report to the Heritage Settlements Unit Director. Knowledge, skills and experience required: An advanced university degree (Masters or PhD or equivalent qualification) in architecture, urban or landscape planning, architectural conservation, or a related field is required, along with at least five years of work experience in the management and conservation of immovable cultural heritage. Demonstrable experience of landscape management and integrated approaches to conservation is preferred. Familiarity with conservation approaches in the Asia/Pacific region will be considered an advantage, as will experience of working with the World Heritage system. Must have excellent teamwork, managerial and communication skills, preferably with experience in an international, multicultural environment. Experience of teaching is an advantage. Excellent knowledge of English is essential and a working knowledge of French and other languages is desirable. Terms and benefits: The Project Manager will be appointed for an initial period of four years, with the first year being probationary, and will be resident in Rome. The net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) for this position is equivalent to a P-3 level in the United Nations Staff Professional Salary Scale, which currently (April 2004) corresponds to US$ 66,960 (without dependants) and US$ 71,735 (with dependants). He/she will monitor and interpret trends worldwide in the conservation and restoration field, helping to develop activities in education, training, institutional networking and public awareness, while also providing technical advice at the request of Member States and partner organizations. He/she will work closely with ICCROM's interdisciplinary Professional Staff and will report to the Collections Unit Director. Knowledge, skills and experience required: A M.A. degree or an equivalent qualification in conservation and restoration, or a related field, with at least five years professional experience in the conservation of collections. The ability to provide advice on the conservation of a broad range of cultural heritage materials is essential. Experience in promoting public awareness of conservation will be considered an advantage, as will project management and fundraising skills. Must have excellent teamwork, managerial and communication skills, preferably with experience in an international, multicultural environment. Excellent knowledge of one of ICCROM's official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other. Knowledge of Italian and other languages an advantage.
