Subject: Anatomical models
I am a conservation student in Vienna and currently finalising a thesis about conservation and restoration of anatomical wax models (Italy, ca. 1785) made of a beeswax-pineresin-mixture. As conservation of wax objects is a very specialised topic, I would like to get to know conservators occupied with research or conservation projects in this field. My question for today: Has anyone recognised sticky surfaces on old wax-resin objects? I suppose the phenomena has to do with unsuitable solvent-cleaning or varnishing methods. My poll for today: What do you think is a suitable material for gluing wax? I tested acrylic resins, acrylic dispersions, and polyethylene glycol 2000-4000 so far. Any new ideas?
