Outdoor sculpture

The City of Toronto has recently received from China a gift of two
pure white, life size marble lion sculptures. The sculptures will be
permanently installed outdoors, next to a busy street here in
Toronto. Does anyone have any suggestions, or experiences, related
to how I can protect these lions from road salt, acid rain, air
borne dirt and pollution, and graffiti?

Does anyone have experience with coatings that actually work, are
relatively easy to maintain and are compatible with marble?
