of Ecclesiastical Textiles, Rhodes, Greece,  October 4-8, 2004 run
in conjunction with the Directorate of Conservation, Athens and the
4th Ephorate, Rhodes

Monday 4 October 2004
At the old monastery of St. George Hourmalis,Rhodes.

Morning:

    Ecclesiastical Vestments and ceremonial textiles of the Greek
    Orthodox Church

    Management of Collections of Ecclesiastical Textiles in the
    Greek Monasteries

Afternoon:

    Introduction to deterioration problems of ecclesiastical
    textiles in Greek Monasteries

    Assessment of Condition and Documentation

Tuesday 5 October 2004
At the Old Castle of Rhodes

Morning:

    Visit the Conservation department and laboratories of the 4th
    Byzantine Ephorate of Rhodes

Afternoon:

    The ethical substance of ecclesiastical textiles in the Orthodox
    Church and the role of Conservation.

    Environmental Parameters and the causes of decay of
    Ecclesiastical textiles on display and  storage inside
    monasteries.

Wednesday 6 October
At the Folk Art Museum of Rhodes

Morning:

    Construction techniques of ecclesiastical textiles and methods
    of investigation

    First aid methods and disaster planning for Ecclesiastical
    textiles

    Visit

Afternoon:

    Presentation of the textile Collection of the Ecclesiastical
    Museum of Asclipio. Deterioration problems and first aid
    techniques to be demonstrated and discussed.

Thursday 7 October 2004

    To the village and the Ecclesiastical Museum, Asclipio.
    Preventive conservation for display and storage of
    ecclesiastical textiles--practical/discussion

Friday 8 October 2004

Morning:

    General considerations for the conservation of Ecclesiastical
    textiles of the Collection of Ecclesiastical Vestments of
    Chozoviotissa Monastery of Amorgos--Conservation Plan of the
    Directorate of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments.

Afternoon:

    Demonstration of conservation techniques on vestments in the
    textile conservation laboratory of the 4th Byzantine Ephorate
