The National Trust believes passionately in conserving the historic
interest and natural beauty of our environment, whilst encouraging
ever more people to enjoy and learn about it. We are looking for a
successor to our current Historic Properties Director to lead our
team of professionals advising on the care of many of the nation's
most precious and beautiful buildings, gardens, historic landscapes
and works of art, with the opportunity to make them more enjoyable
and rewarding for all sections of society. We need a rare
combination of the highest conservation, curatorial, communication
and management skills so that this precious collective asset gives
the greatest possible public benefit, for ever, for everyone.

Working closely with the Land Use Director and the Director of
Conservation (to whom you will report) you will ensure that our
strategy for combining conservation with access is reflected
seamlessly in your team's service to our operational staff managing
the many properties in the Trust's care. A whole host of specialists
will be under your leadership from archaeologists to curators,
gardens and parks advisers to conservators, as well as risk
management areas such as fire and security. With full responsibility
for the management of the budgets and the centrally reporting staff
in your discipline, you will also provide a specialist voice for the
interests of historic properties as a member of the Trust's
Management Board.

Your abilities will be as wide-ranging as your responsibilities. A
passionate conservationist with extensive expertise in a relevant
historic environment specialism, you share our commitment to
promoting learning and enjoyment in innovative ways.

As a senior manager with an exemplary record of achievement, you
have highly-developed people and resource management skills. In
short, through your charismatic leadership and fluent advocacy, you
will spread your passion for artefacts, buildings, gardens and
landscapes, to our staff, volunteers, members and the wider public.
