Museum SOS: Strategies for Emergency Response and Salvage
May 11-16, 2004

The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections
(SPNHC) is holding its 19th annual meeting in New York at the
American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) May 11-16, 2004.

The special technical session--Museum SOS: Strategies for Emergency
Response and Salvage--is a full day session of invited speakers
focusing on topics of widespread interest including national and
international alliances and response, preparedness and salvage in
the event of armed conflict (with specific focus on Iraq), salvage
efforts in Czech Republic post-floods, recovery efforts at the
Pentagon post 9/11, and much more. An additional one-day workshop
will focus more specifically on salvage techniques within the first
24 hours of an event.

The general technical sessions will focus on topics concerning
bridge building in natural sciences collections management and
conservation, archives, data management and research/technical
studies.

Additional highlights include a one-day field trip to the Yale
Peabody museum, tours of the AMNH collections, and a joint session
with ISBER (International Society for Biological and Environmental
Repositories) focusing on frozen tissue preservation.
