4 Positions State Library of Victoria The State Library of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia, has an active program for the preservation of Victoria's documentary heritage including printed material, pictures, manuscripts, maps and digital objects. These 4 new positions will join an established team of 6 staff in Preventive Conservation to deal with all aspects of maintaining the State Collection. Collection Storage Project Officer Full time, fixed term (2 years) c.Aus$48K +superannuation This new position is responsible for collection audit and storage projects at all of the Library's locations and is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join the Library's Preservation Section. You will be experienced in planning and maintaining storage facilities and have a background in storage logistics, experience in planning, design, systems and operational aspects of materials' storage. Knowledge of the principles of preservation and conservation of heritage materials would be an advantage. Senior Preservation Technician Full time, Ongoing c.Aus$38K +superannuation This position is responsible for supervising projects to preserve heritage material, including packaging, binding, boxing and covering items, managing environmental monitoring of storage areas, preparing material for digitisation, moving collections and maintaining the Library's stock of preservation materials. To be successful in this position you will be experienced in staff supervision, handling and moving heritage material and interacting with conservators, collection curators and other Library staff. You will also have a demonstrated knowledge of the principles of preservation and conservation of heritage materials. Preservation Technician (2 positions) Full time, Fixed term (3 years) c.Aus$33K +superannuation This position is responsible for undertaking projects to preserve the Library's collection, including copying on microfilm and digital formats, cleaning, boxing and binding fragile items, mounting and assisting with exhibition installation. Because this is a 'hands on job', to be successful in the position you will need to demonstrate high level manual dexterity. An appreciation for heritage material and knowledge of the principles of preservation and conservation will be an advantage. Many of the projects are team based therefore evidence of ability to work in a team is also required. Some heavy lifting and use of trolleys is also required.
