Subject: Cultural heritage in Kosovo
**** Moderator's comments: This message has been edited; polemical material unrelated to issues of cultural property have been removed. Kosovo and Metohia is the cradle of the Serbian Orthodox people and their Church. With over 2,400 Serbian Orthodox religious sites and monuments, this southern province of Serbia is the very heart of Serbian spiritual, cultural and national identity. During only three days, 25 Serbian Orthodox Churches--seven of them have come down from XII to XIV century--were burned by Albanians terrorists. More than 120 Churches were totally destroyed at Kosovo and Metohia (most of them were under protection of Institute for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Serbia). Only three Serbian Orthodox Churches stay alive in Kosovo: The Patriarchate of Pec (1260); Decani Monastery (1327) and Gracanica Monastery (1315) Frescoes masterpieces, manuscripts, icons, and other relics of priceless cultural and historical value were burnt or stolen by Albanians terrorists. And all that under the watchful eye of the UN, UNESCO, Human Rights Watch, NATO, KFOR, UNMIK and other "fighters" for human rights.
