AIC 2004 meeting--Speakers Luncheon Web Skills Luncheon: Becoming Adept at Using On-Line Information Saturday, June 12, 2004 12-1:30 pm at the AIC 32nd Annual Meeting Hilton Portland and Executive Towers Portland, Oregon June 9-14, 2004 With increasing access to large amounts of information of highly variable quality, there is a need for practical guidance in searching the web more efficiently and effectively, accessing material that is not publicly available (the "invisible" web), evaluating the source of on-line information, and knowing when not to use on-line sources. At this special luncheon, Professor and Reference Librarian Red Wassenich will make a presentation titled "Incorporating Information Literacy into Conservation: Searching beyond Google," focused on guidelines and techniques for improving the web searching skills of conservators. A number of sample conservation-oriented questions will be researched and extensive hand-outs will be provided to the audience. Co-hosted by Book and Paper Group, Conservators in Private Practice, Electronic Media Group, and Photographic Materials Group, this event is open to all AIC conference attendees. Ticket price: $15 (includes box lunch and beverage). Seating is limited; early registration is suggested.
