Field Services Coordinator The Upper Midwest Conservation Association (UMCA) The Field Services program of the Upper Midwest Conservation Association (UMCA) is seeking a Field Services Conservator. UMCAs Field Services program has been primarily funded by the NEH for eight consecutive years and is now expanding to meet this regions varied preservation needs. The position of Field Services Conservator will work closely with the Director of Field Services, Neil Cockerline, to initially assist and then become proficient with on-site assessment surveys; the development and presentation of educational workshops; consulting on collections care, preservation planning, disaster preparedness and other related subjects as necessary; writing articles and other technical materials; on-site disaster response and collections salvage; and assisting in writing grants. The position does not provide for active conservation treatments or bench work. This position will report to the Director of Field Services, and will work closely with the Field Services Coordinator, the Project Director, other museum professionals and the general public. The candidate should have a graduate degree in conservation with practical experience in preservation issues; working knowledge of computers, common software and the internet; excellent writing and editing skills; excellent public relations skills; good understanding of working with individuals and institutions that have limited preservation knowledge and limited funding; and good problem solving and organizational skills.
