Mattel Hot Wheels

From: Renee E. de Ville <devillere>

I am inquiring about information or interest in the preservation and
conservation of Mattel Hot Wheels cards. These cards include paper
board support, adhesives and plastics (as well as the cars
themselves).

I am a private practice book and paper conservator. A client of
mine is a passionate and serious collector of Hot Wheels cards with
a collection of over 6,000 cards and related items. His interest in
the preservation of his collection has gone to great lengths insofar
as to create a separate room in his home to provide as proper an
environment and housing as possible.

Among his collections are issues of overall wear, cracks in the
plastic encasements and stains on the paper supports (possibly from
use of solvents to reattach loose components).

In general, the collectors of these items seem fervent and have web
postings of methods "to tidy up your artifacts". But overall, my
searches have produced limited amounts of productive information to
ethically address some of the needs of this collection.

Southwest with the knowledge and interest to work on this type of
collectable. Please write to me directly (or post if you prefer) so
that I may pass the information on to this client.
