Contract Paper Conservator London Metropolitan Archives (full time, fixed term 9 months) Salary: JE3 (UKP 16,810-19,720) London Metropolitan Archives <URL:http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/lma> is the largest local government archive repository in the United Kingdom and is the primary source of archive information for the capital with collections spanning the period 1130 to 2003. Following a successful bid to The Pilgrim Trust, we are looking for a paper conservator to carry out conservation treatments on 18th and 19th century ms documents. The project, known as the 'London Signatures project' will conserve original wills and related testamentary documents from the Consistory Court of the Bishop of London 1751 to 1858. It provides an opportunity to work in a busy, up-to-date studio in central London and would ideally suit a newly qualified conservator. The successful candidate will clean, flatten and repair paper and parchment documents in preparation for microfilming, working with a part-time conservator who will supervise the project. A group of volunteers will be indexing the material prior to conservation treatment.
