Lantern slides

From: Deborah Rohan <deborah.rohan>

We are cleaning, listing, and packaging a collection of glass
lantern slides. Several of them have broken or missing cover
glasses, and several have split along the passepartout edging.

Would anyone know of a source in the U.K. for spare cover glasses
for slides, or for passepartout? I am currently using silversafe
paper with methyl cellulose adhesive, but the latter doesn't stick
as well as I'd like. Given that paste tends to be hygroscopic, and
synthetic glues can produce harmful breakdown products, what is the
adhesive of choice for this job?
