Typically the HOBO weather stations are very reliable however we we have run into corrosion problems when the station is used near the ocean. With Onset being located on Cape Cod we run into a nasty environmental as well, especially when a Nor'Easter blows through. The nuts and bolts on the tripod are galvanized steel so they will rust eventually. We have experienced corrosion on 2 sensors in particular, the Wind Speed and Direction sensor and the RH sensor located in the solar radiation shield. At this point I do not have a good solution to protect the HOBO Weather Station from the nasty environment. If you choose to use the HOBO Weather Station in this environment we recommend checking the station monthly with your laptop to make sure the sensors are working properly and accurately.
