Conservator Kent County Council Full time, permanent position, 37 hours p.w. UKP UKP16,700 - UKP20,100 p.a. Based at Canterbury Cathedral Archives. We are looking for an enthusiastic, qualified and experienced conservator to be part of our small, yet busy team, to work on archive and library materials for the Kent Archives Service and the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury. In accordance with the partnership agreement, you will carry out conservation treatments on the varied collections of the Cathedral Archives, the Cathedral Library, the Centre for Kentish Studies in Maidstone and the East Kent Archives Centre near Dover, and keep accurate documentation of all historic information and treatments. The items requiring conservation and preservation range from Anglo-Saxon charters, funerary vestments, glass plate negatives, photographs and seals to early printed books and modern local history resources. You will also be required to monitor and record environmental conditions, prepare and mount material for exhibition, make boxes for fragile items and advise on best practice for a wide range of preservation concerns, including handling and storage issues. You will hold a recognised qualification in conservation or bookbinding and have four years' practical, post-qualification experience of paper, parchment and book conservation, with fine binding and gold finishing skills an advantage. Good team working skills, an ability to work independently and basic computer literacy are also essential requirements.
