You will ensure the long-term care and conservation of English
Heritage's fine art collection, focussing on easel paintings, frames
and gilded furniture, through the delivery of effective standards,
treatment, research and training. Specifically, you will define
achievable standards of care for the fine art collections, in
consultation with key stakeholders, maintain audits and set up the
national fine art conservation treatments programme and the national
easel paintings refitting and hanging contract. Other aspects of the
role include assisting with the training programme, teaching on the
Safeguarding Historic Collections Short Course Programme as well as
speaking at conferences and writing for publication to promote
collections care standards and practices.

You will be a qualified conservator with a relevant degree and a
minimum of five years' experience and specialist knowledge of fine
art care and conservation, preferably gained in a museum. A
successful track record of managing consultant conservators and
contractors and influencing collections care standards across a
dispersed collection is required, as well as project and budget
management skills.

A flexible, pragmatic approach combined with excellent interpersonal
and networking skills are essential, as you will be expected to
motivate staff, communicate technical information to non-technical
audiences and develop internal and external partnerships.
Additionally, you will act as an international courier and be able
to travel to and work in historic sites across the UK.
