Subject: Iron gall ink corrosion on silk
I have recently received an album dated 1865. The album contains 65 drawings executed in ink on silk. Two types of inks have been identified, one of them being iron gall. The drawings are showing the typical signs of corrosion associated with iron gall ink, similar to the ones normally observed on paper. I would be interested in hearing from conservators/scientists investigating iron gall ink corrosion specifically on silk and possible approaches to treatment.
