Subject: Request for bids--Studies on stewardship in the East Midlands, UK
Call for expressions of interest for two studies in stewardship in the East Midlands, UK. EMMLAC, East Midlands Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, England is carrying out two short investigations in stewardship in the East Midlands: "Investigation into Conservation and Storage Provision for museums, libraries and archives in the East Midlands" and "Investigation of the work of REDS (Regional Emergency and Disaster Squad)" EMMLAC is asking for expressions of interest in these two projects. Although, we would be happy to consider bids for each project individually, we expect the projects to be carried out together and would welcome expressions of interest for both projects as one piece of work. The closing date for applications is 12 noon on November 15, 2003. It is envisaged that interviews with shortlisted applicants will be held at EMMLAC's offices during the week beginning November 24, 2003. If you would like full details of the projects, please contact Jerry Weber Regional Archive Development Officer East Midlands Museums, Libraries and Archives Council 56 King Street Leicester LE1 6RL +44 116 285 1358 +44 7961 594401 jweber [at] emmlac__org__uk 1. "Investigation into Conservation and Storage Provision for museums, libraries and archives in the East Midlands" EMMLAC is committed to assisting in the improvement in standards of collections care in museums, libraries and archives in the East Midlands. In order to achieve this, a first step is to indicate the extent of conservation provision and storage facilities in the region. This project will be an analytical study to identify current conservation provision and the quality of collections storage in the East Midlands. A scoping study will identify the current provision of conservation services in the East Midlands including the private sector, conservation centres of excellence and mechanisms for staff training in preservation and handling issues. It is also intended that selected parts of Resource's 'Benchmarks in Collections Care' will be used as a template to determine the broad quality and provision of collections storage in the East Midlands. 2. "Investigation of the work of REDS (Regional Emergency and Disaster Squad) This project will investigate the current position of the REDS organisation and will assess potential options for the REDS model to be used in other regions. The project will identify the current activities of REDS, other networks in disaster response and the availability of training and awareness raising programmes on disaster planning in the region. The project will also investigate future development for REDS and provide an options paper for a regional disaster response model for regional museums, libraries and archives organisations. *** Conservation DistList Instance 17:36 Distributed: Thursday, October 23, 2003 Message Id: cdl-17-36-011 ***Received on Monday, 20 October, 2003
