Conservator (archeology) University of Bergen, Bergen Museum, Norway At Bergen Museum there is a vacant position as conservator (archeology) at the conservation unit, beginning in the first months 2004. The Conservation Section is responsible for the conservation and restoration of objects from the anthropology, archaeology (prehistoric through Middle Ages), and recent history collections. The section has seven permanent positions covering paintings and polychrome sculpture, textiles, archaeology and cultural history, and an analytical laboratory. The section has recently moved into new facilities in the heart of the university and city, and is in the process of building up the conservation facilities and treatment repertoire. Responsibilities include bench conservation of archaeological and cultural history material; field conservation; exhibitions and loans including courier work; preventive conservation, supervision of students, advising staff and answering queries from the public; historical and technical examination and documentation; making copies; external projects. The conservator may, in cooperation with the section head and curators, do relevant research in conservation. Completion of a graduate conservation program in archaeological/object conservation or comparable training required, and preferably 5 years post qualification experience. Equivalent qualifications can be relevant training courses and extensive practical experience, particularly in conservation of collections in archeology and cultural history. Drivers license required. The position demands the ability to work both independently, and together with a range of staff members, and organizational ability. Salary will be NOK 256.600-299-300, code 1085, salary scale 32-42 based on experience. Applicants with extra high qualification may be offered a higher salary. Bergen Museum houses the University of Bergen's collections in cultural and natural history. Bergen Museum's activities around these collections involve augmentation, documentation, research, conservation and exhibition. As a state-financed university museum, Bergen Museum maintains extensive scientific collections and is a regional center for scientific competence and the dissemination of knowledge. Bergen Museum is divided into the Natural History Section (anthropology, archaeology, church art, and newer cultural history) and the Cultural History Section (botany, geology and zoology).
